The jump height is ultimately determined by the take-off velocity. A requirement for success in a large number of athletic skills is explosive power. During vertical jumping, the muscles in the lower body act rapidly and with great force in an attempt to produce the greatest possible velocity as it leaves the ground.
Dynamic strength is defined as the maximal ability of a muscle to exert force or torque at a specified velocity (Knuttgen & Kraemer, 1987) and is often assessed by using a one-repetition-maximum (1 RM) test, in which strength is defined as the maximum weight an athlete can lift one time through the entire range of motion.
